“Nuptials of Dracula”

BRAZIL  |  2018  |  70 minutes  |  Director: Matheus Marchetti

A man trapped in a glass cell, tormented by visions of shrouded figures, and memories of a strange journey to a Transylvanian castle. A ghostly bride walking down the aisle towards a grotesque ceremony. A young girl who crawls out of bed every night for moonlit encounters with a mysterious Count, to whom she offers her blood.

“Nuptials of Dracula” is an experimental take on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, made with almost no resources and no budget, reinterpreting some of the most iconic moments of Gothic literature through a queer perspective.

Enamored of arts and filmmaking pretty much since birth, Matheus Marchetti has spent his childhood and early teens making homemade films with friends, bearing a particular fondness for the horror genre.

He also dabbled in musical theater, directing an amateur production of the classic “Les Misérables”.

Recently graduated as a film major from FAAP (in São Paulo), Matheus works primarily as a director, writer, assistant director, and editor. In the past few years, he’s been exploring his own personal style, incorporating the aesthetics of Gothic Horror to LGBT themes, with a strong influence of opera and musical theater.

In a partnership with fellow filmmaker João Paulo Belentani, he also makes institutional films and documentary shorts for different areas.
